What am I Reading? –- Home Before Dark: A Novel by Riley Sager ~ What was it like? Living in that house.

Maggie Holt is used to such questions. Twenty-five years ago, she and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. They spent three weeks there before fleeing in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His tale of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity—and skepticism.

Today, Maggie is a restorer of old homes and too young to remember any of the events mentioned in her father's book. But she also doesn’t believe a word of it. Ghosts, after all, don’t exist. When Maggie inherits Baneberry Hall after her father's death, she returns to renovate the place to prepare it for sale. But her homecoming is anything but warm. People from the past, chronicled in House of Horrors, lurk in the shadows. And locals aren’t thrilled that their small town has been made infamous thanks to Maggie’s father. Even more unnerving is Baneberry Hall itself—a place filled with relics from another era that hint at a history of dark deeds. As Maggie experiences strange occurrences straight out of her father’s book, she starts to believe that what he wrote was more fact than fiction.

What am I Listening to? – - The Art of Limitless Living: The Joy, Possibility and Power of Living a Heart-Centered Life by Melissa Joy Jonsson
We already are what we wish to become.

Join inspiring, life-transformational leader Melissa Joy on a journey to the heart of interactive reality creation, where self-love is the new normal.

Humanity is in a position that we have never been in previously, on new and unfamiliar terrain. You may be at a place in your own life where you are aware that "tried and true" behaviors and beliefs are no longer working. You may be unsure how to proceed.

Through a brilliant weave of unique language, testimonials, and practical play, The Art of Limitless Living provides multiple access points for creating new self-loving maps to navigate through changing landscapes.

What Quote am I Pondering? –  “The first draft is just you telling yourself the story.” I used to think I was not a multi-draft person but, I am learning I am just that. I do it a little differently as the story grows.

What am I Researching? –  This week I discovered a new app MeWe. It is like FB and IG before they became popular. Kinda a nice break from the Social media norm. If you check it out. Definitely friend me, and we can discover together. Also read an Article in the LA Times about a sportscaster who ended up with COVID-19. He describes what it was like. I found it interesting. Here is the link. https://www.latimes.com/sports/story/2020-08-12/column-bill-plaschke-covid-19-experience

Yummy Meal of the Week – Apple Walnut Salad with Chicken - https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/apple-and-walnut-salad/
this is a no mayo, yogurt, or any other kind of creamy dressing salad. Eaten with a sweet vinaigrette which offsets the bleu cheese and tangy apples. Mouth-watering yum!

What did I Learn? –  I missed walking outside. About a year and a half ago I stopped walking outside. I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed walking in the fresh air, and sunshine. It gives me a clarity of mind and energy I have been missing. I am back to my goal of 10 thousand steps a day!

What am I Watching? – - Unwell on Netflix – Docuseries about the industry of being well. I got my son hooked on The Rookie on Hulu, sadly they only have Season Two so now I am on the hunt for Season One for him to watch.

What am I Reading? – Battlemind: A Military Legal Thriller by Michael Waddington - A suspected terrorist is tortured to death in a secret Afghanistan prison. A low-ranking guard is the military’s top suspect.

Army JAG lawyer Captain Max O’Donnell isn’t so sure. Max is 90 days away from ending his tour of duty, and the last thing he needs is to take on an un-winnable case. But no matter how jaded and burned out he has become; he still believes justice is worth fighting for.

Digging deeper into the case, Max unearths a shadowy alliance between the prosecution, led by Colonel Covington Paine, and a team of faceless CIA spooks. Paine will stop at nothing to win, and he’s willing to crush anyone who gets in his way - including Max O’Donnell.

With his client’s life on the line and his military career hanging in the balance, Max must wage war in the courtroom and seize victory the only way he knows how.

What am I Listening to? –
How to Stop Feeling like Sh*t by Andrea Owen - 'Fearlessly tells it like it is, offering its readers no-nonsense and insightful advice to help them get over their crap and wake up to their own brilliance.' - Jen Sincero, bestselling author of You Are A Badass

It's time to stop self-sabotaging and start living your best life.

How to Stop Feeling Like Sh*t is a straight-shooting approach to self-improvement for women, one that offers no-crap truth-telling about the most common self-destructive behaviors women tend to engage in.

From listening to the imposter complex and bitchy inner critic to catastrophizing and people-pleasing, Andrea Owen--a nationally sought-after life coach-- crystallizes what's behind these invisible, undermining habits. With each chapter, she offers practical advice and kicks women's gears out of autopilot and empowers them to create happier, more fulfilling lives.

Powerfully on-the-mark, the chapters are short and digestible, nicely bypassing weighty examinations in favor of punch-points of awareness.

How could I not, when Jen recommends the book? OMG, I have totally drunk the Kool-Aid!

What Quote am I Pondering? – “Love yourself like you're the only one there is.” - Jen Sincero

What am I Researching? –  The Christian book world. I have a potential client who has written a published a book for kids 11-17 called A Treehouse in Jericho. Interesting piece of the publishing pie. Stay tuned!

Yummy Meal of the Week – Cheesy Jambalaya with Sweet Italian Sausage – This is a cheat but yummy. Zatarain’s Cheesy Jambalaya add sausage and I roasted some mini peppers. So, Yum!

What did I Learn? – Anger is a powerful motivator. I am the most unfiltered when angry. I also feel the freest, which in itself is scary as I am not normally an angry person. When fueled with rage, I am 100% explosive. A ticking bomb waiting to explode on the person or thing that acts as a trigger.

Anger is not always a bad thing. Anger, whether resentment or irritation is a symptom of a bigger problem. Recognizing the symptom is the first step in working through the problem to resolution.

The part I am struggling to reconcile is the freedom from anger. The mindset of being so angry I do not care what anyone thinks. Oh, how to live like this every day without the angry part?

What am I Watching? – Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Hulu (knew that was coming) and Umbrella Academy Season 2! This will be the third run of Buffy since it ended in May 2003. Such a great show.

I loved season one of the Umbrella Academy and season two dropped on Netflix this past Tuesday. Wahoo! I am only on episode three but fun!!

What am I Reading? – Last week I was given an assignment by my PA. I need to read and review four horror novels for Halloween 2020. I picked my books and now I will start reading. Third on the list –

Intercepts by T.J. Payne

Joe works at a facility that performs human experimentation.

His work just followed him home.

The government wanted to unlock hidden abilities in the human mind.

They put subjects in extreme sensory deprivation.

All the test subjects went violently insane.

But the research continued.

Today it has been perfected.

Almost perfected.

What am I Listening to? –
Mel Robbins – Take Control of Your Life – Audible Original - Mel Robbins is back! The international bestselling phenomenon and creator of The Five Second Rule and Kick Ass with Mel Robbins returns to help you tackle the single biggest obstacle you face: fear. This life-changing Audible Original features a powerful mix of one-on-one life-coaching sessions and a personal narrative with vital take-aways that you can start using immediately.

With humor and wisdom, Mel Robbins expertly tackles the fear of change, rejection, and being alone, as well as imposter syndrome and feeling trapped in the wrong career. Each session is a goldmine of discovery as Mel guides you to find your purpose, improve your relationships, and ultimately take control of your life. In these times of high anxiety, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed - that changes right now. If you want the tools to break free from fear and live to your fullest potential, this is a must-listen.

What Quote am I Pondering? – “For years we have thought of TRAUMA as physically events that are shocking and scarring. Emotional trauma, while leaving no physical scars and is absorbed instead of seen, is many times more severe and takes longer to resolve. Emotion trauma becomes an unconscious truth we need to redefine.”

What am I Researching? –  As Stupid Car (my current WIP) is winding down I am surveying the options for my next few projects. Lining up what I will need to complete. One of the topics I will need to investigate and do some reading on is PTSD and Veteran services. Thankfully, I have several real world resources for these!

Yummy Meal of the Week – Buffalo Chicken Meatballs! – I started out making these because I craved them. Then an unexpected birthday party arose and I made them again – total hit at the party! Wahoo for me. Spicy, Keto friendly and ohhh soooo addictive.

What did I Learn? – Like I said in earlier posts, I am working on my baggage and letting it go! Something I heard the other day was eye opening and I had a breakthrough concerning my own anxiety and writing. It was a smack on the head moment, and I am happy I uncovered it so I can move forward!

What am I Watching? – Game of Thrones. I have given up on watching with my son, he takes too long. I am on Season 6 Ep 8. Also watched the Entertainment Tonight Reunion shows for Buffy and Angel. I loved these shows so much! It was awesome hearing from Joss Wheadon and the actors and actresses.

What am I Reading? – Last week I was given an assignment by my PA. I need to read and review four horror novels for Halloween 2020. I picked my books and now I will start reading. Second on the list - Sleep Disorders by Mark Lukens

Twenty-six-year-old Zach Hughes and his wife Michelle were just hoping to have a nice dinner at a restaurant on a Friday evening. As Zach is seated at the table, Michelle goes to the restroom . . . she never comes back.

After a frantic search, the only thing Zach finds is his wife's purse in the bathroom with her keys, money, and cell phone inside. The only witness is an elderly woman who saw Michelle leave with a man. Zach believes his wife was taken.

The police are called, but they get nowhere, believing Michelle left Zach. The next morning, Zach is questioned by two detectives who believe he did something terrible to his wife. With no police help, Zach begins searching for his wife, unearthing clues. As he digs into her past, he finds that she's led a secret life.

Every night since Michelle's disappearance, Zach wakes up to find himself fully dressed, the lights on in his house, and his front door unlocked. Has he been sleepwalking? He's never done that before. Could it be connected to his wife's disappearance? He films himself while he sleeps to see where he goes while sleepwalking, to see what he does.

What he sees on the video scares him to death . . . and it's only the beginning.

What am I Listening to? –  I have discovered Gaia. Yes, it is a TV channel, however, it is also an awesome audio treasure trove. Most of the ‘episodes’ are of someone talking and or explaining a concept and there are rare times where you need to see what they are talking about, so I just listen. My favorite series right now is Rewired by Dr. Joe Dispenza

What Quote am I Pondering? “If you don’t know how to control your emotional reactions and there’s a refractory period, and you let that emotional reaction linger for hours or days, it turns into a mood. So you say to someone, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ The person says, ‘I’m in a mood.’ Then you say, ‘Why are you in a mood?’ They say, ‘Well, this thing happened to me five days ago and I’m having one long emotional reaction.’ If you keep that refractory period going for weeks and months, you’ve developed a temperament. If you keep that same refractory period going on for years, it’s called a personality trait.” — Dr. Joe Dispenza ~ WOW!

What am I Researching? –  Everything. Mostly how to be my best self and live my most authentic life. Sounds easy – actually, it doesn’t, and it’s not. Yet, it is. While the research I am doing is exhausting, confusing and at time frustrating I feel myself growing each day. I am creating my future self now. One step at a time.

Yummy Meal of the Week – This really hasn’t been the week for cooking. That being said, my favorite meal of the week was Spam burgers with Zack. Yes, Spam burgers. Lettuce, tomato, Mayo and a bun. Like it or loathe it, I said YUM!

What did I Learn? – I learned that sometimes it is better to walk away. People have their own baggage to figure out. Their own stuff, and I don’t need to wait, wonder and or be abused while they figure out their shit. Just because you love someone does not mean you have to like them.

What am I Watching? – Game of Thrones. I have given up on watching with my son, he takes too long. I am on Season 4 Ep 7 Mockingbird. Have to say my two favorite characters are Tyrion and The Mother of Dragons.

What am I Reading? –
I was given an assignment by my PA. I need to read and review four horror novels for Halloween 2020. I picked my books and now I will start reading. First up is

All towns have secrets. But none like Netherwell Bay…

‘Sis, I’m in trouble. Real trouble. And I need help.’
After receiving a worrying message from her estranged brother, Beth Davis sets out to find and help him, ending up in the strange, coastal town of Netherwell Bay.
There, she begins to witness terrifying and unexplainable things, and reports of ritualistic murders have the town panicked.
A sinister cult soon makes its presence known, and the dark history of Netherwell Bay is unveiled. Beth then finds herself in a race against time to stop a doorway to Hell from opening… permanently.
The Netherwell Horror is a Lovecraftian mystery that quickly descends into madness, sickening violence, and chaos. Fans of Silent Hill will love this nightmarish tale, but those of a squeamish disposition need not apply…

What am I Listening to? –  Five Second Rule by Mel Robbins. Yes, I know I talked about this one last week but OMG. It is changing my life. Seriously! I am so going to need to purchase this book. (I have the audiobook) LOL.

What Quote am I Pondering? – “Leadership is Action, not Position.” Don’t preach to me about what you are doing to do – do it. Just because you are in charge doesn’t mean you are gonna do squat.

What am I Researching? –  Luxury living in Atlanta. Turns out one of the most expensive places to live in Georgia is Buckhorn. I was researching locations for Stupid Car. Jess, my MC has an apartment in Atlanta. He is a millionaire, so we need some serious swank and I think I found it at the Sutton. Wowzah! I could live here for a bit with no problem.

Yummy Meal of the Week – Family Nachos – Layer of chips. Layer of beef (ground beef cooked with mild taco seasoning), Layer of Queso (Velveeta Cheese mixed with mild salsa for 5 mins in the microwave) Another Layer of chips, beef and queso. Topped off with chopped tomatoes, scallions and served with sour cream and guacamole on the side. YUM!

What did I Learn? – Working seven days a week is not that bad. I do have to make sure I allow recovery time. The body is not as young as it used to be. 😊

What am I Watching? – So many great shows out there right now. Hollywood has finally shifted gears considering COVID. I already mentioned Southern Survival. There is also The Floor is Lava, did you play this game as a kid? My new retreat – Warrior Nun ~ After waking up in a morgue, an orphaned teen discovers she now possesses superpowers as the chosen Halo Bearer for a secret sect of demon-hunting nuns. ~Oh yes, the show is completely badass, and I love it!

What am I Listening to? –  Guided Meditation, Lots of country music, and The 5 Second Rule: Transform your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage ~ How to enrich your life and destroy doubt in five seconds. ~ Mel Robbins

Throughout your life, you've had parents, coaches, teachers, friends, and mentors who have pushed you to be better than your excuses and bigger than your fears. What if the secret to having the confidence and courage to enrich your life and work is simply knowing how to push yourself?
Using the science of habits, riveting stories, and surprising facts from some of the most famous moments in history, art, and business, Mel Robbins will explain the power of a "push moment". Then, she'll give you one simple tool you can use to become your greatest self.

    Beat fear and uncertainty
    Stop worrying and feel happier
    Share your ideas with courage
The 5 Second Rule is a simple, one-size-fits-all solution for the one problem we all face - we hold ourselves back.

What Quote am I Pondering? –  Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

What am I Researching? –  Holiday releases. I have two books scheduled for release this holiday season, so I am watching and browsing lots of romantic holiday titles. Christmas in July!!

Yummy Meal of the Week – Beef Bulgogi (Korean BBQ Beef)

What did I Learn? – I learned, and I am learning what it means to go with the flow. While it the literary meaning is applicable. It can also speak to creativity and life flow. I am a huge fan of pocket and every day there is an article about scheduling, time management and productivity. While I am all about scheduling I am realizing a strict regiment may not be as awesome as I want it to be. We tend to be hard on ourselves if we (I) set up a schedule and then fail to execute. Sometimes it’s better to have a list of important items and get them accomplished as it naturally arises throughout the day. Maybe it is all progressive?

What am I Watching? – My new favorite show is BattlBox - Southern Survival – Outdoor Gear Tested - The BattlBox crew tests out products designed to help people survive dangerous situations, including explosions, natural disasters and intruders. Watch it, totally worth it!

What am I Reading? – The Final Wars Begin (Final Wars Trilogy Book 1) by S. A. Asthana ~ ONE MAN SETS IN MOTION THE COLLAPSE OF CIVILIZATION. It's 2209. World War III has left humanity fragmented. Three colonies survive, each on a different world - Earth supports New Paris, its moon has become Nippon One, and Mars has Port Sydney. Trade and tensions bind them, keeping peace balanced on the edge of a precipice. A cruel dictator rages on one world. A failed experiment plunges another into financial ruin. Diplomatic pressures bear down on the third. All it would take is for one man to tip everything over into conflict.

ENTER BASTIEN LYONS. A man on the run, Bastien's moral compass has made him a fugitive in the colonies. The odds against his escape are stacked high - a military robot built to erase outlaws hunts him. So do bounty hunters. What's worse: Bastien finds himself caught in a deadly political chess match between Earth and Mars. He must not only outwit those threats but also create alliances to live. In doing so, Bastien will push the world towards...THE FINAL WARS.

What am I Listening to? –  Music, lots and lots of music. I’ve found music is really my fantastic creative base and also my center calm. Everything from the Bee-Gee’s to Adele to Metallica. I am all over the place and loving it.

What Quote am I Pondering? –  "Creativity is intelligence having fun."

What am I Researching? –  I am still all about the DIY zone. Watching videos on reusing cardboard boxes, wooden pallets, old clothes, old towels, decoupage, and fabric painting. I bought a sketchbook and have been planning projects. Not sure where it is all coming from, but reuse is less waste, right??

Yummy Meal of the Week – Okay this week I do not have a meal per-say but more of a drink. Pretty simple but I am addicted. Strawberry Sprite @ Sonic. I limit myself to one a day and OMG I am hooked. I have to add, by using the Sonic app to order ahead all of the drinks are ½ price ALL THE TIME!

What did I Learn? – This week wasn’t as dramatic as last week. I did learn, however, it is okay to be spastic and all over the place. To follow where the creative brain leads. I always get it all done. No need to panic mid flow.

What am I Watching? – Finished Grey’s Anatomy and finished Dead To Me (On Netflix) both were amazing. Love it! If you have not seen Dead To Me, and or if you have kinda looked at it but not pushed PLAY please do it! So worth it. ~ Jen's husband recently died in a hit-and-run, and the sardonic widow is determined to solve the crime. Optimistic free spirit Judy has recently suffered a tragic loss of her own. The ladies meet at a support group and, despite their polar-opposite personalities, become unlikely friends. As the women bond over bottles of wine and a shared affinity for "The Facts of Life," Judy tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it. The dark comedy -- which explores the weirdly funny sides of grief, loss and forgiveness -- features a cast that includes TV veterans Christina Applegate and Ed Asner.
