Romine's Review - Sold By Blair Denholm

Blurb

The Gold Coast swelters in record temperatures, and car salesman Gary Braswell's hot under the collar. With sales at rock-bottom, and up to his neck in debt to loan shark Jocko Mackenzie, Gary's sweating on a fat commission from a mysterious Russian couple.
If the loan is not repaid, there's more than Gary's kneecaps at stake - his long-suffering wife's also in peril. But Jocko demands more than repayment and has sinister plans for the hapless salesman.
Gary turns his skills to real estate and is soon embroiled in the murky world of money laundering. With the federal police sniffing around and Jocko on his tail, Gary concocts an audacious scam.
0Success means money - lots of it.
Failure means death.
But can hard-drinking, cocaine-snorting Gary pull it off?

20th Century Noir at its Most Entertaining!

Very much enjoyed this superbly paced, well written and engaging novel.
The author presents Gary as an ordinary man, with an ordinary life. As you read further you peel back the layers of Gary and his life, uncovering a severely flawed human being.  And while you want to hate the man for being a scoundrel and an idiot you feel sympathy for him.  The author, Blair Denholm carefully crafted this story with realism and subtle conscious you do not easily find in today’s genre piece.

The writing is blunt, frank and unapologetic, just like the character and yet there is a conscious grace and style that pulls you in and makes you want to know more.

A page-turner from the beginning, the author makes very logical choices in an illogical and sometimes absurd situation that is unnervingly realistic. You chuckle and enjoy while knowing that out there somewhere a poor sucker is mirroring Gary Braswell’s life.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves an exploration of the human condition and examining life choices and the sometimes – albeit subconscious—consequences. As I was reading, I was reminded of the shows Better Call Saul, Shameless, Breaking Bad, and the acclaimed novel “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”.

Harry's Love Letters Hacked! By M LeMont - A Fascinating Piece of Fiction

HARRY'S LOVE LETTERS HACKED!: A NOVEL: I Won't Pay Those Bastards a Dime. Silver Rain is Falling.
By M LeMont

Blurb This book takes on-line romance to a whole new level. Provocative, Romantic, Shocking, and Scandalous. A gift to women who are unhappy, and stuck in a boring, unaffectionate and non–romantic relationship, or marriage, and who have lost touch with reality of what true love really is.

 Review
A Fascinating Piece of Fiction - Raw, Sexy and Honest

This sensual, funny, sexy read is almost voyeuristic in nature. The author lets us peek into the hearts, minds, and passions of two people caught up in an emotional love affair.

The book is laid out as a timeline of Direct Messages and Email conversations between the pair. That are later discovered, exposing the emotional affair that has developed.

The two characters, Ann and Harry start out as colleagues. An appreciation for mutual talent, intellect, and sense of humor develops and a spark ignites.

The slight keyhole you are given by the author is, to me, fascinating. You know nothing about the characters except what is written in the letters and messages to each other. This forces the reader to look for clues, read between the lines and creates anticipation for the next interaction. It also drives the book forward at a furious pace.

It is a tale many of us know, and many have found ourselves in a similar plight. Attraction to someone besides our chosen mate. A realization of something missing from our lives now being fulfilled by someone else. Those very realistic and conflicting emotions are conveyed with elegance and beauty within the exchanged letters. The intensity of emotion leaves the reader at times breathless and uncomfortable. This is not meant as a negative but as a nod to the author for his insightful descriptions and ability to seek truth in a muddle of words.

Some may not care for the central themes of extra-marital communication or what is commonly known as an emotional affair. That being said, if you read the book as it is, a work of fiction, an experiment in looking at the motivations of why we do what we do, why emotional affairs happens, it is a fascinating and raw piece of art.

Book Review - Always the Bridesmaid by Dakota Trace

Always the Bridesmaid by Dakota Trace

She’s been burned, and he’s going to help her get revenge.

Always the bridesmaid, that’s what everyone says about dependable Jenna Smith. With her cousin’s wedding coming up and no boyfriend in sight, she doesn’t expect it to change. That’s until she meets Dr. Noah Absolom, one of the groomsmen. Not only does he not mind her BBW size, he seems to love it. Even as she basks in his attention, Jenna’s ugly past with the best man rears its ugly head. Rather than letting Jenna flee from it, Noah proposes that he help her get sweet revenge on her cheating ex – all Jenna has to do is accept.

This book actually made me cry! It is beautiful, sexy, sweet, and full of heart.  The celebration of a woman of any size gets thumbs up from me. The fact that Ms. Trace was bold enough to take the less trodden path of giving her main character a full figure is just courageous. Dakota’s inner dialog for Jenna is heartbreaking and refreshing.  The insecurities women of all sizes have when it comes to their bodies are handled with grace and honesty.
I did not cry when he proposed, I did cry when she finally believed that Noah’s attraction was sincere and deeply rooted. “Not all men like sticks in their bed.”  Noah’s appreciation of Jenna’s curves created a rugged prince than any woman, of any size, will melt over.

The pace is quick, whisking you through the unexpected love affair from first kiss to eternal bliss. While this is a romance, this is most definitely an erotic romance. In this case the erotic center of the book is a breathtaking use of physical emotion. To tell the tale Ms. Trace has designed, sexuality is a main character and is handled with tasteful passion.

I love the simplicity of the tale, the hopeless romance and captured daydream of any woman who is feeling less than glamorous.  Dakota Trace is a highly underrated creative force, and I highly recommend this book.  It tugs on the heart strings, speaks to the enchantment of a man and a woman truly embracing an undeniable attraction, and has an overall heartwarming message of happily-ever after for all sizes, shapes, and colors!
