Fall Picks 2015 - Blindspot on NBC

It is my favorite time of year, new TV! I do get excited, and sometimes scared about the new Fall television series. Television is such a versatile medium and every year there are marvels of greatness and oh-god-what-were-they-thinking? My DVR is already full of shows I LOVE to watch, how can I possible make room for more? Well I am hoping to at least off some guidance in the ‘what should I try’ category.

Here is how it works, I have chosen shows I think are good bets, I put them to the three episode test and then decide whether to click ‘Series Record’ or Delete. There are A LOT of new shows his year so I am going to list them as they premiere.

Blindspot - Premiere’s Sept 21st on NBC, An unidentified woman with amnesia is found covered with tattoos, and the FBI soon realize that each mark on her body reveals a crime to be solved. Talk about thinking outside the box or body in this case. This one looks to be intriguing in not only the decoding of the tattoos but the unraveling of who this woman is and how she became the ‘messenger’. Liking the intrigue and premise of this show.

Starring Jaimie Alexander, as Jane Doe. Jaimie is best known as Lady Sith (I know I knew her face from somewhere)from both Thor movies and Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D., she is an up and coming actress with HUGE potential in my humble opinion. Playing opposite her as Kurt Weller is Sullivan Stapleton, a virtual unknown from Australia, he has frustrated cop written all over him.

While Martin Gero doesn't’t have a huge resume of hits under his belt I am willing to overlook that for creativity alone. It will all depend on characterization and dialog, it always does in my book :)

As always here is a first look for you...see you on Wednesday when I will be reviewing the Blindspt pilot.

Fall Picks for 2015 - Minority Report on FOX

It's my favorite time of year, new TV!

Minority Report the Series - Premiering on Monday, Sept 21st on FOX, yes this show is based on the 2002 Tom Cruise/Stephen Spielberg film. Did anyone else remember Colin Farrell was in that film? I digress…

Per FOX television, The series is set in Washington, D.C., it is 10 years after the demise of Precrime, a law enforcement agency tasked with identifying and eliminating criminals… before their crimes were committed. To carry out this brand of justice, the agency used three precogs – “precognitives” Dash, Arthur and Agatha – who were able to see the future. Now, in 2065, crime-solving is different, and justice leans more on sophisticated and trusted technology than on the instincts of the precogs. During the Minority Report panel for the Television Critics Association, producers Borenstein and Falls explained Fox’s Minority Report TV series shows that there were complications the film didn’t explore.

This is intriguing to me, a platform to address current social issues in a future state, sounds like a political fantasy dream. Now that the precogs are free, Dash (Stark Sands) is trying to save people from his psychic visions of their death, but he never gets there in time. So Precrime was only 100% effective under Anderton (Tom Cruise’s character in the original film). Other people aren’t as reliable. It also suggests that telling someone you’re going to catch them won’t necessarily stop them from perpetrating a crime.

In an interview with the pair after the panel, as posted by Slash Film.com Producer Max Borenstein states “our characters deal with ethical dilemmas in every episode because unlike in the movie, they don’t have an institutional ability, an infrastructure to intervene. Instead, they have to do kind of living room precrime and they have to be judge, jury and arbiter of these people’s lives. Now, sometimes that may mean giving a person another chance. Sometimes it may mean someone is so bad and they absolutely believe this person needs to be put away because they’re evil, maybe they make a decision and they don’t have actual evidence. Maybe they would consider planting it. These kind of moral dilemmas are right at the heart of what our show is about and putting our characters to the test.”

This will be the chief writers of 2014’s Godzilla’s first stab at television, while Kevin Falls has a plethora of production work ranging from NBC’s The West Wing to TNT’s Franklin & Bash.

Putting Minority Report to the three episode test and I will report back on Wednesday my thoughts on the pilot. Here is the pilot trailer if you are enticed.

SNS Nails - Must Have For Fall

The newest must have nails! I LOVE my nails, they are worry free, beautiful and all mine! I am spreading the word as everyone I have attempted to explain this to looks at me like I an nutz!

They are called SNS for Signature Nail System and here is what it is! For years my mother and sister have been going to the nail salon and getting tips on our nails for the length. Then you usually go back every two weeks for a 'fill' these are called acrylic nails. My family usually get the pink and white version as they don't chip and look professional.
So one day I go into my nail salon to get a fill and they want me to be a guinea pig for this new nail system. I say, sure why not?  From that I day I have not stopped and now instead of having tips, I have my real nails and the SNS polish does not chip (awesomeness!)

SNS is a dipping system that is natural and healthy to your real nails. SNS dipping powder has no odor, no liquid, no primer and no UV light. SNS is for healthy nails, unlike gel or acrylic. SNS are much thinner, light weight, easy to do and most importantly, helps your nails grow out stronger and healthier by adding 5 different kinds of Vitamins and Calcium.

The GELous Soak-off Color Powder is the one and only Gel Polish product that is able to create the natural look of a French Color Tip and have multiple color designs with over 320 exceptional colors. GELous Soak-off Color Powder can be done on a real nail as Soak-off Manicure Gel or on SNS Natural Set with the choice of Half-moon (French Color Tip) or whole nail. GELous Soak-off Color Powder will last for more than 14 days with a mirror finish while having no damage to the nail bed, and it only requires 10 minutes to soak off in Acetone. GELous Soak-off Color Powder are Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP Free.

Last but not least a pic of MY nails! I really do love them!They are long, strong and hard, just like acrylics...

For more information go to SNS Nails.com

Scammers Aren’t Just For Grannies Anymore

 I am not an expert, lawyer or in any way stating you should listen to me. I am a victim (that physically hurt to say btw) and I am relaying my story.

I remember hearing awful stories about nice young gentlemen showing up at Granny’s house and walking away with her life savings. Whether it was for charity, or an investment, the ‘scam’ artist was usually easy to spot, at least I thought they were. They are, if I am being honest. They know it too which is why they employ some nasty tricks to get them to do what they want. They use guilt, conscience, and fear to make you move forward with a given scenario.
So as you have guessed by now, I have been scammed out of some money. Yes, I feel like a dunce. My particular scammer was successful for several reasons, and if I had been a little more educated their trick would not have worked so easily on me. First, there are rules to the collection game, yes I owe people money, who doesn’t? However, my lack of knowledge in regard to the rules has reared its head as the mistake #1. Mistake # 2 was letting emotion, fear and or guilt ‘convince’ you. Like Granny I want to do the right thing. I want to help the starving children in Africa, and or I want to invest in swamp area in Florida! I owe people money and thus I feel guilty and ashamed these people were contacting me. Scammer’s use fear language and the promise of a settlement to ‘make the debt right’. So my brain sayspay off the debt, no more guiltWAHOO!

NOT!

First, some definitions, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), is the nation’s consumer protection agency. The FTC enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you. Under the FDCPA, a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes collection agencies, lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis, and companies that buy delinquent debts and then try to collect them.
Mistake #1 – Rules of Engagement - there are a few big things to keep any eye out for as indicators of fraud.
Misspellings in communication
Grammatical errors in communication
Threatening or hostile language
Saying you will be Sued for Debt - If you are actually sued for a debt, you won’t get a call. Instead, you will be served with a legal notice (typically a complaint and summons) that contains instructions for responding. A variation on this scam is when someone calls and says that a lawsuit will be filed immediately if you don’t pay. That can also be a red flag: Under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, collectors can’t threaten to take action they can’t legally take or don’t intend to take. If you are sued, you must be given time to respond.
Stating they are Law Enforcement - The caller may even offer to give you his or her “badge number.” This is almost a certain sign of a scam: Local law enforcement is not going to call you to try to collect a personal debt, and the FBI certainly won’t. If they claim to work with the sheriff’s office or FBI, tell them you will call them back at the published number for that agency. No doubt you’ll find out they were lying.
Here are the Rules of Engagement from the FTC for debt collection in the United States:
Contact - Debt collectors can contact you by phone, letter, email, or text message to collect a debt, as long as they follow the rules and disclose that they are debt collectors. No matter how they communicate with you, it’s against the law for a debt collector to pretend to be someone else — like an attorney or government agency — or to harass, threaten or deceive you to act. A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they’re told (orally or in writing) that you’re not allowed to get calls there.
Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:
use threats of violence or harm;
publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
use obscene or profane language; or
repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.
False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
misrepresent the amount you owe;
indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren’t; or
indicate that papers they send to you aren’t legal forms if they are.
Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:
you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt;
they’ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or
legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don’t intend to take the action.
Debt collectors may not:
give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;
send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn’t; or
use a false company name.
Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:
try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt – or your state law – allows the charge;
deposit a post-dated check early;
take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or
contact you by postcard.

Amazingly Evil - Nutella Puppy Chow

Looks can be deceiving...I ended up making so much I froze a second bag. Also keeping mine in the fridge as it is still way HOTT in Texas :0)

Enjoy!

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (use semi-sweet or dark, milk would be far too sweet and you’d lose the chocolate flavor)
  • 3/4 cup white chocolate chips
  • 2/3 cup hazelnuts
  • 13 cups (more or less) or one 12oz box of hearty wheat/corn/rice cereal like Crispix or Chex – try to find a hearty version so it doesn’t break down when stirring (try to find one without preservatives, just read the ingredients on the side of the box)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
Method:

  • In a 350 degree preheated oven, roast hazelnuts until fragrant and light brown, about 8 minutes
  • Allow to cool and remove as much of the skin as you can with a towel
  • Grind finely in a food processor, if you don’t have one, a coffee grinder should work
  • Put the cereal in a large bowl
  • On a pan over medium-low heat, melt butter, chocolate, and white chocolate, stirring constantly
  • When all is melted, remove from heat and add Nutella and stir until mixed in, then add hazelnuts and stir well.
  • Slowly pour over cereal, wash your hands, and stir with your hands! It’s much easier than with a spoon. This may take some time since the batter is thick, but if you’re patient, you’ll get the lovely thickly coated ones. The cereal that breaks clumps together with the topping and there’s no harm done in that!
  • Wash those hands and add the cereal to a gallon sized plastic baggie, add the powdered sugar and shake shake shake! I like to start with less powdered sugar and slowly add it – too much powdered sugar and that’s all you taste! You just want that white coating right after the light brown stage – not to over-do the sweetness.
