What am I Reading? – The Sleep Experiment by Jeremy Bates - In 1954, at the start of the Cold War, the Soviet military offered four political prisoners their freedom if they participated in an experiment requiring them to remain awake for fourteen days while under the influence of a powerful stimulant gas. The prisoners ultimately reverted to murder, self-mutilation, and madness. None survived.
In 2018, Dr. Roy
Wallis, an esteemed psychology professor at UC Berkeley, is attempting to
recreate the same experiment during the summer break in a soon-to-be demolished
building on campus. He and two student assistants share an eight-hour
rotational schedule to observe their young Australian test subjects around the
clock.
What begins
innocently enough, however, morphs into a nightmare beyond description that no
one could have imagined—with, perhaps, the exception of Dr. Roy Wallis himself.
What am I Listening to? –
An exuberant amount of talk radio. With the world currently upside down, COVID
and the pending election, all hands are on deck. Seriously.
What
Quote am I Pondering? – “What happens after the 2020 election? Doesn’t matter
who wins EVERYTHING is gonna change.” - Unknown
What am I Researching? – My brain
has been so ADD lately. Too many changes at once, perhaps? This week was all
about organizing. I rearranged my room, moved my office, and am now looking at
the kitchen in scrutiny.
Yummy
Meal of the Week – Loaded Baked Potato w/ chili, cheese, sour cream, scallions.
I got mine from Bill & Ruth’s. Easy peasy to make at home.
What
did I Learn? – The World is on Hold – Not in any way true but also completely
true. At least in the US, we are all trying to move forward. However, it seems
with every step there is a new obstacle. Whether it’s Cancel Culture (Yes I
have personally experience the loss of followers due to the expression of an
opinion), School starting(Zack is back in school. Full on masks, one-way
hallways, and Friday online learning. Fake News (whether you like it or not the
truth of anything is a challenge to find these days). Protesting, Rioting,
Wildfires, or the frustration from our inability to navigate any of it without
going in circles and questioning our own sanity. Chew on that… 😊
What
am I Watching?
– The Home Edit - A Netflix Original Series. 'Move over, Marie
Kondo - Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin are the professional organizers the
A-list now let rifle through their drawers.' - Sunday Times Style Clea Shearer
and Joanna Teplin are back again to bring both function and beauty to your
everyday life. ...

What am I Reading? – Girl Sleuth: Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her by Melanie Rehak - The true story behind the iconic fictional detective is “a fascinating chapter in the history of publishing” (The Seattle Times). The plucky “titian-haired” sleuth solved her first mystery in 1930—and eighty million books later, Nancy Drew has survived the Depression, World War II, and the sixties (when she was taken up with a vengeance by women’s libbers) to enter the pantheon of American culture. As beloved by girls today as she was by their grandmothers, Nancy Drew has both inspired and reflected the changes in her readers’ lives. Here, in a narrative with all the page-turning pace of Nancy’s adventures, Melanie Rehak solves an enduring literary mystery: Who created Nancy Drew? And how did she go from pulp heroine to icon?
The brainchild of children’s book mogul Edward Stratemeyer, Nancy was brought to life by two women: Mildred Wirt Benson, a pioneering journalist from Iowa, and Harriet Stratemeyer Adams, a well-bred wife and mother who took over her father’s business empire as CEO. In this century-spanning, “absorbing and delightful” story, the author traces their roles—and Nancy’s—in forging the modern American woman
What am I Listening to? – The Dharma Method - 7 Daily Steps to Spiritual Advancement by Simon Chokoisky -A practical guide to simple daily techniques for rapid spiritual progress. ~ Enlightenment means becoming a light unto yourself. But how does one get on the path to enlightenment? In this practical spiritual guide, Simon Chokoisky shares 11 time-tested yet simple daily techniques to help you find your spiritual path, or “dharma,” no matter what your spiritual background--be it Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, or Agnostic. He explains how everyone has a unique learning style as well as a spiritual style--your “Dharma type”--and how the Dharma method allows you to pick any seven of the 11 methods described in the book to practice. You can even change them daily, all based on your unique needs. And by holding to the 7/11 “rule” daily, you’ll soon find yourself on the road to rapid spiritual progress and personal enlightenment.
In this book, the author explains how he distilled these 11 spiritual techniques from centuries of methods used by spiritual masters from around the world. He details the 5 different Dharma types and provides personality tests to determine your type. He provides routines, tips, and tricks to keep you on track as well as thoughtful exercises to help you apply spiritual principles in your everyday life. He explores how to apply the commandments of the Judeo-Christian tradition, the Yoga Yamas and Niyamas, and the Buddhist 8-fold path based on your Dharma type. He discusses the power of sound and how to use mantras for success and sacred connection. He also explains the best ways to purify your body and mind as well as how to create a “standing wave” of spiritual power to recharge yourself anytime during the day.
Showing how spirituality is inherent in each of us and is abundant, free, and easy to cultivate, the author reveals how you can best cultivate your spiritual light and share it with the world.
What Quote am I Pondering? – “Unless someone asks the question there's no reason for an answer. Find the questions not asked and the answers not questioned.”
What am I Researching? – How to paint a fridge. Sounds odd right, why would you want to paint a fridge? My fridge is ugly, and I want to cover it with chalkboard paint. In order to do that I need to paint with a primer first, sand it and then do the chalkboard thing so the paint has something to stick to. We will see what happens.
Yummy Meal of the Week – Arby’s Fire Roasted Philly Cheesesteak – I have been illuminated to Arby’s menu as of late and was thrilled to try their Gyro a few months back. This past week I ordered the new Fire Roasted Philly. I am impressed. Pretty darn good for a fast food chain. The bast part are the roasted peppers. Throw some horsey sauce in the mix and YUM! Another new item they have is the Sweet Potato Waffle Fries, also a must try!
What did I Learn? – All of my cats are sick with a cold. I seriously have never heard a Cat snore before. They have been symptomatic and passing it back and forth for about two weeks now. I took the sneeziest kitty, Sebass to the Vet. Got some antibiotics and got into a COVID conversation. Apparently cats and dogs can get COVID just like everyone else. They can contract it from us, but we cannot contract it from them. Who knew?
What am I Watching? – The Witcher on Netflix. This show is very GOT like but on a smaller scale. I looked at it when it first came out and was curious but passed. This past weekend I discovered that Henry Cavill (aka Superman) plays the title role and I did not recognize him at all. This intrigued me so I pressed play. I am only on episode two. So far so good.

What am I Reading? –- Home Before Dark: A Novel by Riley Sager ~ What was it like? Living in that house.
Maggie Holt is used to such questions. Twenty-five years ago, she and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. They spent three weeks there before fleeing in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His tale of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity—and skepticism.
Today, Maggie is a restorer of old homes and too young to remember any of the events mentioned in her father's book. But she also doesn’t believe a word of it. Ghosts, after all, don’t exist. When Maggie inherits Baneberry Hall after her father's death, she returns to renovate the place to prepare it for sale. But her homecoming is anything but warm. People from the past, chronicled in House of Horrors, lurk in the shadows. And locals aren’t thrilled that their small town has been made infamous thanks to Maggie’s father. Even more unnerving is Baneberry Hall itself—a place filled with relics from another era that hint at a history of dark deeds. As Maggie experiences strange occurrences straight out of her father’s book, she starts to believe that what he wrote was more fact than fiction.

What Quote am I Pondering? – “The first draft is just you telling yourself the story.” I used to think I was not a multi-draft person but, I am learning I am just that. I do it a little differently as the story grows.
What am I Researching? – This week I discovered a new app MeWe. It is like FB and IG before they became popular. Kinda a nice break from the Social media norm. If you check it out. Definitely friend me, and we can discover together. Also read an Article in the LA Times about a sportscaster who ended up with COVID-19. He describes what it was like. I found it interesting. Here is the link. https://www.latimes.com/sports/story/2020-08-12/column-bill-plaschke-covid-19-experience
Yummy Meal of the Week – Apple Walnut Salad with Chicken - https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/apple-and-walnut-salad/
this is a no mayo, yogurt, or any other kind of creamy dressing salad. Eaten with a sweet vinaigrette which offsets the bleu cheese and tangy apples. Mouth-watering yum!
What did I Learn? – I missed walking outside. About a year and a half ago I stopped walking outside. I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed walking in the fresh air, and sunshine. It gives me a clarity of mind and energy I have been missing. I am back to my goal of 10 thousand steps a day!
What am I Watching? – - Unwell on Netflix – Docuseries about the industry of being well. I got my son hooked on The Rookie on Hulu, sadly they only have Season Two so now I am on the hunt for Season One for him to watch.

What
am I Reading? –
Battlemind: A Military Legal Thriller
by Michael Waddington - A suspected terrorist is tortured to death in a secret
Afghanistan prison. A low-ranking guard is the military’s top suspect.
Army
JAG lawyer Captain Max O’Donnell isn’t so sure. Max is 90 days away from ending
his tour of duty, and the last thing he needs is to take on an un-winnable
case. But no matter how jaded and burned out he has become; he still believes
justice is worth fighting for.
Digging
deeper into the case, Max unearths a shadowy alliance between the prosecution,
led by Colonel Covington Paine, and a team of faceless CIA spooks. Paine will
stop at nothing to win, and he’s willing to crush anyone who gets in his way -
including Max O’Donnell.
With
his client’s life on the line and his military career hanging in the balance,
Max must wage war in the courtroom and seize victory the only way he knows how.
What am I Listening to? –
How to Stop Feeling like Sh*t by
Andrea Owen
- 'Fearlessly tells it like it is, offering its readers no-nonsense and
insightful advice to help them get over their crap and wake up to their own
brilliance.' - Jen Sincero, bestselling author of You Are A Badass
It's
time to stop self-sabotaging and start living your best life.
How to
Stop Feeling Like Sh*t is a straight-shooting approach to self-improvement for
women, one that offers no-crap truth-telling about the most common
self-destructive behaviors women tend to engage in.
From
listening to the imposter complex and bitchy inner critic to catastrophizing
and people-pleasing, Andrea Owen--a nationally sought-after life coach--
crystallizes what's behind these invisible, undermining habits. With each
chapter, she offers practical advice and kicks women's gears out of autopilot
and empowers them to create happier, more fulfilling lives.
Powerfully
on-the-mark, the chapters are short and digestible, nicely bypassing weighty
examinations in favor of punch-points of awareness.
How could
I not, when Jen recommends the book? OMG, I have totally drunk the Kool-Aid!
What
Quote am I Pondering? – “Love yourself like you're the only one there is.” -
Jen Sincero
What am I Researching? – The
Christian book world. I have a potential client who has written a published a
book for kids 11-17 called A Treehouse in Jericho. Interesting piece of the
publishing pie. Stay tuned!
Yummy Meal of the Week –
Cheesy Jambalaya with Sweet Italian Sausage – This is a cheat but yummy. Zatarain’s
Cheesy Jambalaya add sausage and I roasted some mini peppers. So, Yum!
What
did I Learn? – Anger is a powerful motivator. I am the most unfiltered when
angry. I also feel the freest, which in itself is scary as I am not normally an
angry person. When fueled with rage, I am 100% explosive. A ticking bomb
waiting to explode on the person or thing that acts as a trigger.
Anger
is not always a bad thing. Anger, whether resentment or irritation is a symptom
of a bigger problem. Recognizing the symptom is the first step in working
through the problem to resolution.
The
part I am struggling to reconcile is the freedom from anger. The mindset of
being so angry I do not care what anyone thinks. Oh, how to live like this
every day without the angry part?
What
am I Watching?
– Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Hulu (knew that was coming) and Umbrella
Academy Season 2! This will be the third run of Buffy since it ended in May
2003. Such a great show.
I
loved season one of the Umbrella Academy and season two dropped on Netflix this
past Tuesday. Wahoo! I am only on episode three but fun!!

What am I Reading? – Last week I was
given an assignment by my PA. I need to read and review four horror novels for
Halloween 2020. I picked my books and now I will start reading. Third on the
list –
Joe works at a facility that performs
human experimentation.
His work just followed him home.
The government wanted to unlock hidden
abilities in the human mind.
They put subjects in extreme sensory
deprivation.
All the test subjects went violently
insane.
But the research continued.
Today it has been perfected.
Almost perfected.
What am I Listening to? –

In these times of high anxiety, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed - that changes
right now. If you want the tools to break free from fear and live to your
fullest potential, this is a must-listen.
What Quote am I Pondering? – “For
years we have thought of TRAUMA as physically events that are shocking and
scarring. Emotional trauma, while leaving no physical scars and is absorbed
instead of seen, is many times more severe and takes longer to resolve. Emotion
trauma becomes an unconscious truth we need to redefine.”
What am I Researching? – As
Stupid Car (my current WIP) is winding down I am surveying the options for my
next few projects. Lining up what I will need to complete. One of the topics I
will need to investigate and do some reading on is PTSD and Veteran services.
Thankfully, I have several real world resources for these!
Yummy Meal of the Week –
Buffalo Chicken Meatballs! – I started out making these because I craved
them. Then an unexpected birthday party arose and I made them again – total hit
at the party! Wahoo for me. Spicy, Keto friendly and ohhh soooo addictive.
What did I Learn? – Like I said in
earlier posts, I am working on my baggage and letting it go! Something I heard
the other day was eye opening and I had a breakthrough concerning my own
anxiety and writing. It was a smack on the head moment, and I am happy I
uncovered it so I can move forward!
What am I Watching? – Game of Thrones. I have given up on watching with my son, he takes too long. I am on Season 6 Ep 8. Also watched the Entertainment Tonight Reunion shows for Buffy and Angel. I loved these shows so much! It was awesome hearing from Joss Wheadon and the actors and actresses.

Enjoy your weekend & this post! Amazing things to come!
What am I Reading? – Last week I was given an assignment by my PA. I need to read and review four horror novels for Halloween 2020. I picked my books and now I will start reading. Second on the list - Sleep Disorders by Mark Lukens
Twenty-six-year-old Zach Hughes and his wife Michelle were just hoping to have a nice dinner at a restaurant on a Friday evening. As Zach is seated at the table, Michelle goes to the restroom . . . she never comes back.
After a frantic search, the only thing Zach finds is his wife's purse in the bathroom with her keys, money, and cell phone inside. The only witness is an elderly woman who saw Michelle leave with a man. Zach believes his wife was taken.
The police are called, but they get nowhere, believing Michelle left Zach. The next morning, Zach is questioned by two detectives who believe he did something terrible to his wife. With no police help, Zach begins searching for his wife, unearthing clues. As he digs into her past, he finds that she's led a secret life.
Every night since Michelle's disappearance, Zach wakes up to find himself fully dressed, the lights on in his house, and his front door unlocked. Has he been sleepwalking? He's never done that before. Could it be connected to his wife's disappearance? He films himself while he sleeps to see where he goes while sleepwalking, to see what he does.
What he sees on the video scares him to death . . . and it's only the beginning.
What am I Listening to? – I have discovered Gaia. Yes, it is a TV channel, however, it is also an awesome audio treasure trove. Most of the ‘episodes’ are of someone talking and or explaining a concept and there are rare times where you need to see what they are talking about, so I just listen. My favorite series right now is Rewired by Dr. Joe Dispenza
Yummy Meal of the Week – This really hasn’t been the week for cooking. That being said, my favorite meal of the week was Spam burgers with Zack. Yes, Spam burgers. Lettuce, tomato, Mayo and a bun. Like it or loathe it, I said YUM!
I hope you have an amazing week, and I will talk to you all next Saturday!
