What am I Reading? -  Currently reading Antique Trove by Gabriella Bradley & Taryn Jameson. I am halfway through and loving it so far! So many books t read, so little time! I am always looking for recommendations so drop me a line if you loved something!

What am I Listening to? –  My phone constantly dinging with alerts from all of the social media posting I have been doing and the reminders to do the posting etc. It has been a little crazy around here.

What Quote am I pondering? –  "Six months of focus and hard work can put you five years ahead in your life goals. Don't underestimate the power of consistency and desire"

What am I Researching? –  How to successfully market a book. I am living, breathing experimenting and thriving!

Yummy Meal of the Week – Chili! So YUMMY!

What did I Learn? – I learned passion and consistency is the key to everything. You put the positive passion out there and it comes back! Wahoo! I also learned I have more supporters than I ever imagined, and I am thankful to everyone!

What am I Watching? –  Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D on Netflix my son decided he wanted to start from the beginning, so we have been binge watching off and on for a few weeks now. Loving all of it!

That is all for this week my lovelies!
Hope you have an amazing week and I will talk to you all next Saturday!

What am I Reading? -  I have read so much in the past few months and are so behind on reviews! The goal is to post all of them this week! Be looking for reviews of The Surge by Donna Elliot, Gavin by Russell and Holly Kothe, Angel Eyes by William Worthy & The Mother of All Things by Gabriel Blake.

What am I Listening to? –  A lot of upbeat music. Black-Eyes Peas, Toby Keith, Fun, Kelly Clarkson, etc. Keeping me motivated!

What Quote am I pondering? –  Not really a quote, just a word. Something I have encountered in several random conversations this week. The word is Honor. It seems the weight of this word has lessened in the past century. Our current generation and our children do not seem to know the true meaning of the word, and this makes me sad. ~ Honour (or Honor) is the idea of a bond between an individual and a society as a quality of a person that is both of social teaching and of personal ethos, that manifests itself as a code of conduct, and has various elements such as valor, chivalry, honesty, and compassion.

What am I Researching? –  Oddly enough writing fight scenes. It is one of the facets of my writing I struggle with. Been interesting. Also been researching Grant money. Applied for an Awesome Grant – that is literally the name of it – to help with the launch of Writing Warriors United. We shall see, fingers crossed!

Yummy Meal of the Week – Butternut Squash Chili – Roasted butternut squash with black beans, corn, and taco seasoning. Top with shredded cheddar cheese. Simple, fast, Yum!

What did I Learn? – I learned there is literally a plastic island the size of Texas in the middle of the ocean. So disturbing, right? Makes we think of Wall-E and his little compression boxes. You’d think we could find a use for plastic. Why can’t we build something? Genius brains! Get to work…please?

What am I Watching? –  I watched the Dark Knight with my son. Forgot how awesome this movie is and what a loss of a wonderful actor it marked. Heath Ledger as the Joker is – in my humble opinion—unmatched. The Chris Nolan series of Batman movies are my favorite! Always worth a re-visit when looking for something entertaining.

Happy Saturday, what have you been up to this week? Here is a rundown of highlights for the week. I hope you find them useful in your life! My goal as a person and a writer are to always Pay-It-Forward, so please let me know how I can help you. YES, YOU!

~Amy

What am I Reading? -  Quick read this week – not a lot of time – Meet Meredith by Dee Vious. This is a horror story and took about an hour. I thoroughly enjoyed it. So many books, so little time!

What am I Listening to? –   This week my son has been on an Attack on Titan kick. For those who do not know, this is an Anime television serious. So I have been inadvertently forced to listen to the show from the adjoining room. I usually make him use the Bluetooth sound, so I do not have to endure the distraction, but it is temporarily out of order, so thus I am enduring. The story for the show is actually pretty interesting. It revolves around a set of characters trying to defend their lives against this monstrous human-like creatures. From a writing perspective, it is actually pretty layered and magnificently written. The overly dramatic music and screaming dialog is a little annoying but overall pretty enthralling.

All of my kids are into Anime. Most people think it is silly or for kids. Two things – NOT for kids. The topics are very adult-focused, and the story-telling is usually pretty imaginative and engaging.  #2 Anime is the Japanese mainstream. It is their prime time television, so if you look at it from an entertainment perspective, it is hugely successful. It is just different.

Different is good. We should all try to be open to experiencing new cultures and ideas.

What Quote am I pondering? –  Everything Happens for a Reason ~ this is my life mantra. The single sentence that runs through my head at any given moment. I firmly believe every interaction, every emotion, feeling, introduction, and conversation influences how we move forward with our lives. So I discount nothing. Looking back over my life, they are stepping stones on the path. Signals sometimes of what we have learned and where we are headed. Good and bad. Take heed to them and learn from them.

What am I Researching? –  Marketing. I am always researching marketing. As an author, I am constantly looking for new ways to get noticed and rise above the masses. We are all right? As a human being, we are all looking to get seen somehow. Especially in the age of social media. Likes and comments are food for our egos.

For me, rising above the masses equates to readers looking and buying my books. This is a fact. I knew to go into this business no one is going to sell my book except me. So how do you do that exactly? The book industry has changed so much in the past ten years, and everyone is still trying to figure it out. Somethings work and some things do not.  It is literally a try and fail scenario. Succeed or fail you have to get up and try again.

Pretty much life.

Yummy Meal of the Week – Chicken Rice – so very easy! I love my pressure cooker so much. Take rice, and replace the water you would typically use with chicken stock, add 2 cans of cream of chicken soup. Cook it on the Rice setting. Add in some shredded chicken and voila! YUM!

What did I Learn? -  Referencing my pondering quote, everything happens for a reason, this week was all about reflection and the realization that people and experiences come in and out of our lives for a reason. The reasons are not always what we think at the time. Sometimes they are not even about us, they are about someone else. There are times we enter people’s lives for them. While we will also learn and grow from the engagement, the focus is on them. When we realize this, our perspective changes. It is all about growth. Acknowledging this fact is growth in itself. We have to be continually moving forward, not backward. Learning from our lives, our mistakes, our successes, and our failures. This is how we live full and fulfilling lives.

What am I Watching? –  The Man in High Castle ~ I know I am long overdue for this Amazon series. Season four is about to be released, and I am just starting season two. *sigh* This series, loosely based Philip K. Dick's novel of the same name, takes a look at what the world might look like had the outcome of World War II turned out differently. In this dystopian scenario, the Axis powers won the war, leading to the United States being divided into three parts, an area controlled by the Japanese, a Nazi-controlled section, and a buffer zone between the two. Despite the oppression, a new hope emerges when films turn up that seem to show a different world. A woman believes the films contain the key to freedom and is determined to find their mysterious guardian. – Google

I am absolutely hooked. So well written, acting is fantastic and the drama-good lord. The thing I like most about it is there are no good guys or bad guys. It is all gray. All of the characters are inherently good people coping with their lives and the situations they find themselves in the best they can.  Do not wait to watch this series. You will be missing out.

What am I Reading? -  I have been reading one particular book on and off for a few weeks now. It is a great book but man, tough. How to Cope with Intense Drama and Survive by M LeMont & Taylor Green. This book is well, it is enthralling and not for the faint-hearted. Not because of any horrific physical reasons but the mental and emotional upheaval of the story. Read more about it in my upcoming review.

What am I Listening to? –  I have been listening to a lot of talk radio as of late. Politics and Sociology, in general, is one of my fascinations. In today’s world, one of social media documentation of every freaking word, hiccup, and mis-step the ‘opinion’ has become king, and facts have become an afterthought. This makes all media in general very versatile and yet also very jaded. With everyone inputting their opinions into their particular media form. Again, making for an enthralling mix of left, right, black, white, gray, and green. (analyze that statement for a minute).

·    What Quote am I pondering? –  The RIGHT doors will open for the RIGHT version of you. ~ Kinda goes along with ~ The universe will only give you what you can handle. ~

·    What am I Researching? – Pickle Juice – Y’all just went – what? Well, I was at the dentist the other day, and an older woman said she was feeling a lack of energy and she needed to go drink some pickle juice. I got curious and Googled it. I suggest you do the same. Pretty interesting. I even found out that our favorite sports drink Gatorade was born from the consumption of pickle juice by football players! Go figure!

CoconutOil – I knew coconut oil is awesome, but I found another use I did not know. Last year I started oiling (using coconut, oil or grapeseed oil to detoxify the yucky stuff in your mouth) it worked pretty well. After a recent trip to the dentist, I found out that brushing with coconut oil can help reduce and strengthen your gum line. People who brush with coconut oil before they brush with their favorite toothpaste were able to stop their gums receding and repair the strength of the remaining tissue.

Amazing what you can learn at the dentist!

·    Yummy Meal of the Week – Egg Salad, yes is my favorite item this week. I was craving it on Monday, and I crave it often, Could be my amazing mixture of Olive oil Mayo, Garlic Mustard Aoli and perfectly hard-boiled eggs. Sometimes I leave out the mustard and add some pickle relish just to mix it up.

·    What did I Learn? –   I learned that spring cleaning is not only something you do to your residence. Spring cleaning is something that you can do with your life and your mind. A few times a year, my house gets cluttered, and I have this urge to clean, purge, and rearrange. This is very cathartic, and I feel renewed when finished. This is something I do mentally, as well. I evaluate my current life and activities. Good and bad. Positive activities and negative. Taking a look at what I am doing, when I am doing it and the results. Sometimes things need to be rearranged, cleaned and purged. Rearrange your schedule to when you are most productive. Identify who or what is draining your mood and or your energy. Purge the negative and focus on the positive. Clean out your insecurities, negative thoughts, crappy habits, and clean out your mental closet. What gives me joy, and how can I do more of that?

·    What am I Watching? –  The OrvilleMany of you may, or may not know, I have a HUGE intellectual crush on Seth McFarlane (Creator or Family Guy, American Dad, Actor, writer, etc.). The Orville is his latest project, and I’ve heard mixed reviews. I’ve had absolutely no time to watch anything lately and was honestly trying to avoid watching it out of fear. I am such a fan I wasn’t sure I wanted to go there. This changed the other night, and I watched a few episodes. I really like it, but not for the reasons you would think. I am enjoying the show overall. Its Star Trek throwback with a mix of the realistic dialog is very entertaining. What I love about the show is the transparency of its message and humor. Seth is a genius at taking the world and tilting just enough that you are laughing and thinking at the same moment. It is his gift. The Orville is definitely a labor of love for him, you can see it in the careful planning and execution of the production. It is not the best show on television, but it is the one with the most genuine artistic heart.

I also watched My Strange Addiction on Netflix with my kids. All I am gonna say is people are freaking weird and everyone needs therapy.

·        What am I Reading? – A terrific post by Astounding Author Kristen Lamb ~ Three Ways We Sabotage Our Own Success & How to Change https://tinyurl.com/y5pn562f ~ the focus is writing, but the blog is meant for anything. Dieting, projects, life! She is always such an inspiration and so relatable. Love it! Highly recommend you check out this post and her blog in general.

·        What am I Listening to? –   Funny enough, my own book. Last week’s Saturday Seven was canceled due to my fevered effort to finish Finders. Now I am editing and using something new! My soft edits completed (Grammar, spelling, etc.) I am currently listening to the manuscript via MS WORD. Text to Speech used to be a thing you had to purchase but it is included in MS WORD (under the Review Ribbon), and the voice is actually pretty natural sounding. I HIGHLY recommend listening to anything you write. It points out errors and phrasing you would not otherwise detect.

·        What Quote am I pondering? – “Free will” is one of the most precious gifts we have. To give it over to peer-pressure, psychics, or a dependency on drugs and alcohol is dangerous and incredible waste.” ~ Lorraine Warren, Ghost Tracks: Case Files of Ed & Lorraine Warren ~ So very true! My drug of choice is sleep, and even that is horrid. If you want something go get it! Do not let anyone stand in your way! Special Note ~ Lorraine Warren passed away in her sleep last week at age 92. She is now waltzing with Ed in Heaven! ~ God Bless you Lorraine and Ed Warren and thank you for fighting the good fight!

·        What am I Researching? –  This week was all about architecture. One of the last things I do in a manuscript is to add the descriptions of local. Like an ominous church standing on the top of a hill. And then once in the church what are all of the rooms called, like Vestibule, Nave, Sacristy and Sanctuary. Also comes in handy when you are writing an action scene where your characters are split into different areas. You’d think I would remember this stuff from six years at Catholic School? Apparently not. Lots of fun!

·        Yummy Meal of the Week – Pot Roast ~ a family favorite! Garlic, Onion, Soy sauce all thrown into a pot with Sweet potatoes (or red potatoes), carrots, & celery. Slow cook for 8 hours and viola, a perfect meal and leftovers for a week! Add some BBQ sauce and bread --a yummy sandwich has emerged!

·         What did I Learn? –  I learned the comma, and I am not friends. Seriously, I edit and find that I put commas where they are not needed and am missing commas where they are required. Good lord, thank goodness for Grammarly! Also, this time around I am an and lover. Went back and fixed all of them but jeez! I think it is my fear of fragmented sentences which makes no sense at all, but that is the source – I think.

·         What am I Watching? –  Easter Sunday I watched a Live streaming Easter Pageant through Victory Church here in Tulsa. It was very professionally done – like Hollywood approved—pretty authentic. The Way of Sorrows and the Crucifixion was brutal, bloody, and dramatic. All in all, well done and I was impressed.

I am on tour again promoting the Dead Air Chronicles! Lucky random commenters have a chance to win free books and there is a $25 Amazon Card grand prize! Check out the tour dates through May 18th and I hope to see you there!

What am I Reading? - What if There Is Nothing Wrong With You: A Practice in Reinterpretation by Henkels Susan Munich ~ Susan Henkels has worked as a psychotherapist for more than 45 years. That means she’s spent decades smiling and nodding, decades handing over tissues at the appropriate moment — and decades hearing people tell her all the things about themselves that need to be fixed.
One day, as she was listening to a patient take her through the “whole list of what was wrong with her,” says Henkels, “I thought in the middle of this litany, ‘What? There’s actually nothing wrong with her.’”
From that moment, she realized there is a surprising power to be found in prompting people to ask themselves, “What if there’s nothing wrong with me?” Read More Here.

·       What am I Listening to? –  A lot of classic rock. I found a new radio station that plays it and it really is a good time. Even if I do not know the song I still enjoy it and I cannot say that about any other kind of music. The Eagles, Bob Segar, Fleetwood Mac, Three Dog Night, Elton John, Billy Joel, Carly Simon, James Taylor, America, Toto, etc.  FM 92.9 The Drive

·       What Quote am I pondering? –  Been an eventful week and the one that keeps swirling through my brain is “Just keep swimming, Just keep swimming, Just keep swimming” ~ Dory from Disney’s Finding Nemo. Sometimes that’s all you can do.

·       What am I Researching? – Kidney Stones – a friend of mine suffers from chronic kidney stones, he passes about one every six weeks. Another friend found out very abruptly via screaming pain that he has a 4 cm kidney stone.  There are two things I immediately think of, someone said once that kidney stones are the closest thing the male of our species can experience that is close to the pain of Childbirth. This leads me to the Friends episode when Phoebe is giving birth and Joey has to pass a kidney stone (hilarious all around). There are several types of kidney stones, they are created and caused by varying things happening in your body. #1 thing to do is, during A LOT of water, pass the stone and then have it examined to reveal its source to prevent them in the future. The other item I am learning more about is the Trapezius Muscle. This muscle is the current source of my personal pain – literally. No idea what I did to tick it off, but it is PISSED! Muscle relaxers and pain killers are my current friends.

·       Yummy Meal of the Week – Salad, yes is my favorite item this week. Salad with lettuce, carrots, cheese, egg, croutons, and homemade buttermilk ranch dressing. I have no link to give you a recipe for the salad. I think you can handle it. Oh, and Bacon Cheddar Ranch dip with Ritz crackers is the BOMB!

·       What did I Learn? –   In my job I live in MS Excel and while Excel is a very handy application there are cheats I use to move things along when I am dealing with a large amount of data (which happens to be on a regular basis) I recently upgraded to MS Excel 64 byte to help move processes a little faster. Come to learn my utility cheat does not play well with this higher version.  My cheat of choice is ASAP Utilities. If you use Excel a lot, I would definitely recommend it. The answer to my current dilemma – if you are wondering -- is to use the free version of ASAP on my personal laptop and that way I can still utilize it when needed.

·       What am I Watching? –  Still watching Blindspot, we are in toward the end of Season two. I am also watching the Rookie.  Loving both! Also watched Big Hero 6 – just love that movie. I really love almost all Disney movies.  There are some I have not seen and some I will never watch again but overall Disney rocks.

·        What am I Reading? – So very much!
The 13 Most Chilling Horror Books of 2018 – Very interesting, as someone who is releasing a horror novel in the near future I am going to try and read a lot of the books on this list ~ what makes them so chilling?

·        What am I Listening to? –  Awesome Podcast called Talking Messy by a friend of mine, absolutely hilarious and just amazing. New episodes every Thursday ~ Definitely check it out.

·        What Quote am I pondering? –  Not really a quote. I was working on interview questions for a blog post on a fellow author’s sire – Seelie Kay. The questions were really original. Made me think. One was a choice – choose one Perfect Health, revisit a day in the past or get a glimpse of heaven. I chose visit a day in the past because I realized how much I miss my Dad. He is always in the back of my mind and yet I also know I make a conscious decision to NOT think about him. Hurts to much, I think? Will need to ponder this some more…

·        What am I Researching? – Holy Prom Batman! My daughter’s prom is tomorrow night so this whole week has been about the dress, the shows, the hair, make-up and good lord $$$. It is craziness. I went to three prom’s and all of my dresses were under 50$. That is NOT the case now, holy mother of an industry! Next year we are Prom shopping in January—and by the way who has Prom in freaking March! Oklahoma, apparently.

·        Yummy Meal of the Week –  Eggbert’s Ultimate Chicken Sandwich. Greasy goodness! Fried chicken with Bacon, lettuce and tomato on a bun with mayo. OMG! So good. Takes me back my time in PA, there was a restaurant called Friendly’s and their chicken sandwiches were amazing. This is the closest I have come to finding something as good.

·         What did I Learn? –  BANG! is the new Monster and I love it (energy drink, Google it) & The Feynman Technique: The Best Way to Learn Anything

·         What am I Watching? –  Literally no time to watch anything this week, it has been nutzoid! Lots of shows I need to add to my list. One little thing I did watch that was very entertaining was here – There is no celebrity on earth today who would be able to get away with this in 2019 ~ Dean Martin & Frank Sinatra on the Tonight Show with Joey Bishop.

·        What am I Reading? –  How To Get Rid Of The Thoughts That Are Clogging Your Brain - “I never thought about that.” So let me get this straight. You’re thinking all the time, and yet, you never think about how much time you spend thinking.

Angel Eyes by William Brian Worthy - A pre-requisite to reading this book should be to first read “The Naked Society” by Vance Packard, which was published in 1964. The state of our society was in fact much worse than Vance Packard portrayed, and in every way, should be more appropriately described as “The Torn Society.” Even five years before the publication of Vance Packard’s book, a turn in the way that people in our society were treated deviated from a normal respect of human rights into the proliferation of a philosophy to make humans available for the exploitation of other humans, namely the so called “upper crust” of society. The tools for achieving this would be modern technology. Our society cannot have peace because it is in conflict with itself, torn by tyranny from within. It is our society, The American Society, The Torn Society. To come to grips with this, the people and leaders of this society need to see what they have become. Fortunately, the angels in heaven saw that the demise of the human race would transpire if The Torn Society would be allowed to run its course. So they sent something to correct that course – their eyes.
This Book is not for the faint-hearted. This book deals with several mature and serious issues. Will the "Torn Society" make the appropriate changes to become a better society? These are some of the many questions this book seeks to answer.

·        What am I Listening to? –  Totally Awesome 80’s! ~ is a local radio station you can also catch it on ALEXA and I LOVE it. They are having an 80’s Prom on April 27th I am totally excited about going. If you are in the Tulsa Area you should totally check it out. If you are not in the Tulsa area but love the 80’s you should also definitely check it out as well for crimped hair, jelly bracelets and Aqua-Net galore!

·        What Quote am I pondering? –  Lady I love and admire ~ “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” ~ Audrey Hepburn

·        What am I Researching? –  Believe it or not, Juicing! Yeah, like Jack LaLanne juicing. A friend of mine started juicing about a year ago and it has helped with his anxiety and depression. I am looking into it. Planning on picking up all of the ingredients and he is going to make me a jug of juice to try! I will keep you posted on how it turns out. Highly recommend the documentary ~ Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead

·        Yummy Meal of the week –  Mexican Lasagna ~ A friend of mine made this for me for dinner and it was soooo yummy! Here is the recipe.

·         What did I Learn? –   Funny enough I have learned that watching Marvel movies out of order is VERY confusing. With the new movie coming out (see the trailer here) we have decided to watch the Marvel movies from the beginning – in order – so we will be ready for Avengers – End Game!

·         What am I Watching? –  This week was a throwback for me, and a discovery for my new beau. I introduced him to Sherlock. I have personally watched the entire series probably four times so far, and I love it every time I watch it.

Saturday Seven! ~ March 16th 2019

Happy Saturday, what have you been up to this week? Here is a rundown of highlights for the week. I hope you find them useful in your life! My goal as a person and a writer are to always Pay-It-Forward so please let me know how I can help you. YES, YOU!

·        What am I Reading? –  Buy a cat, stay up late, don't drink: top 10 writers’ tips on writing by By Travis Elborough ~ I love reading about other writers, their thoughts, habits, and advice. Great article.

Tribe of Mentors - What would this look like if it were easy? is such a lovely and deceptively leveraged question. It’s easy to convince yourself that things need to be hard, that if you’re not redlining, you’re not trying hard enough. This leads us to look for paths of most resistance, creating unnecessary hardship in the process.~ Tim Ferris

·        What am I Listening to? –  My new favorite song is by Francis and the Machine called – Moderation. I keep listening to it, just love it.

The 10X Rule  - The only difference between success and failure by Grant Cardone ~ While most people operate with only three degrees of action-no action, retreat, or normal action-if you're after big goals, you don't want to settle for the ordinary. To reach the next level, you must understand the coveted 4th degree of action. This 4th degree, also known as the 10 X Rule, is that level of action that guarantees companies and individuals realize their goals and dreams.

·        What Quote am I pondering? –  “Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part”. – unknown.  It is so true and must be remembered. This is one of those quotes you hang on your desk for YOU and everyone to see.” People have this belief that the world revolves around them so when they are in a crisis everyone else should be as well. Not true and not cool. Right?

·        What am I Researching? –  This week the research was all about what scares us as a human being. What makes a movie, book, poem, etc terrifying? What do you think is the answer? Everyone is different of course, fear is highly subjective however the # thing that links all humans is the fear of isolation. Makes sense. “Well if I were You-Know-Who, I'd want you to feel cut off from everyone else; because if it's just you alone, you're not as much of a threat.” ~ Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

·        Yummy Meal of the week – I discovered Stouffer’s Seasoning Wraps. Funny, I have a link to a video on my site about them and there are all of these comments about how it is the stupidest product ever. I disagree. I love them and thus my write up this week on Friday Food Love!

·         What did I Learn? –  This week I learned focus is key to any endeavor. When you are distracted doing too many other things you are not giving 100% to your goal. Doing 10 things at 10% focus is not as effective as doing 1 thing at 100%.

·         What am I Watching? –  This week I was only able to enjoy one show, Blindspot. I have loved this show from the beginning and I try to enjoy it while folding the seemingly endless amounts of laundry my family seem to generate. 😊
